Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a small charity that carefully selects specific dogs to be trained to support deaf people. Dogs are very smart as well as being cute!
It’s interesting to note that there are currently 939 hearing dogs partnered with deaf people and there is a long waiting list for more partnerships. It can take up to 3 years to match and perfectly train a dog for a deaf person. Every hearing dog will the have a lifetime of training from 8 weeks to 11 years old.
How do hearing dogs help deaf people?
They help by alerting them to very simple sounds, like the door bell, a phone ringing, an alarm clock, fire alarm and many more. Hearing dogs are trained to keep deaf people safe and help make their lives easier. The dogs also help their partner owners feel less isolated. They are great companions!
